first announced that they were dipping their toes in spin-offs and prequels, I found myself scratching my head, and the first Annabelle film felt like the nail in the coffin for the franchise. They aren't the standard for the genre by any means, but I'll always remember them very fondly. The Conjuring films are some of the best mainstream Horror flicks to come out over the last decade. Quite frankly, it is entertaining on the first watch. But the question is, is Annabelle Comes Home a waste of time? No. In this third Annabelle movie's case, the potential of its story is wasted because of continuous cheap scare-centric. Imagine a war without any explosion, no damage dealt, and no one have gotten into a serious war shock after the climatic commotions – this is how I felt watching this movie. It did not deliver the scare factor, and if it did, the execution is not strong enough.
Instead of focusing on giving the story a dept altogether with much darker themes and combining it with the feeling of helplessness and isolation that includes interesting character arcs the movie suffers from focusing on too much cheap scares (as expected), and it's getting way too rusty at this point – for short, it is not scary. Some of these characters is lacking strong qualities of dimention in their traits. The most things it failed to do is to keep the viewers' engagement with the characters. However, this sort of emphasis makes the natural essence of turmoil within the movie's concept blurry, unheavy and inconsequential.
It also emphasize the theme about facing-your-fears, the compassion of friendship, and the subtle message of obidience. The attention to detail through design, the cinematography, and the film score makes the movie look and feels very much retro, and the effort with it, is paid-off. I think this third Annabelle movie was trying to keep the cycle of Conjuverse going, and somehow, it successfully did. You guys is Annabelle Comes Home the closes thing we've got to a second good movie?. Oh my God I think it actually is this one. What's the next best entry? The crème de la compètènt? It's. Conjuring 2 is the good one and everything else ranges from "alright" to "dumpster fire", and the first Annabelle is firmly at the bottom of that dumpster fire.
The only entry I've given a favourable review ("favourable" here meaning "more than a 5 outta 10") iissss *dramatic pause* THIS O- no I'm kidding it's Conjuring 2. The franchise as a whole is okay, but not only is has something better come out post-The Conjuring, furthermore, I'm gonna go ahead and say that the first Conjuring movie isn't even really that good. Lots of people say that the whole Conjuring franchise is a cool thing, but nothing has come close to the quality of that first The Conjuring movie. But that second one came off the back of the first Annabelle movie. I was a little less worried about a third Annabelle movie than I was the second one, because, well this came off the back of that second one, and that second one was okay.
